Hosted by Vicki Phillips (Assistant Professor-General Education), Meet Me in the Studio is a new webinar series during which artists and professionals from all walks of life will join Vicki to explore creative ways we can de-stress and add more joy to our lives. These events are open to all Rasmussen University students, faculty, and staff.

Episode 1: Cell Phone Photography Fun!

For our first episode of Meet Me in the Studio, Vicki will be joined by Krista Vylasek (Program Coordinator, School of Health Sciences). Krista is a life-long photographer, and she will walk you through how to take amazing photos by using your cell phone! That’s right, you don’t need to buy fancy equipment to take breath-taking photos. Krista will show us how she uses her cell phone and a few easy apps to capture some of the most amazing photos ever!

Episode 2: Japanese Art Form of Temari

For our second event in the series, Vicki will be joined by Rasmussen University Adjunct Instructor and South Florida Artist, Sharon Thieman. Ms. Thieman will introduce us to the Japanese art form of Temari. In this fun for all ages activity-based workshop, she will walk us through how we can de-stress by using a simple hoop, grapevine ball, or other spherical object that we can learn to wrap with various patterns, using colored strands of thread, ribbons, and yarn. Not only is the technique relaxing and fun, but it also offers other health benefits as well. Ms. Thieman has been teaching Temari in her local community since 2005, as well as exhibiting this art form in various galleries in both the US and Japan. Temari balls also make wonderful gifts as well, so consider this workshop a wonderful way to get a head start on your gift giving for the upcoming holiday season!

Supplies needed if you wish to particiapte in the activity: a pencil or pen, a small piece of paper, a small hoop, or a hollow rattan or grapevine ball (available at local craft stores), along with assorted colors of yarn or other fabric strips they would like to use to wrap the object of their choice.
