Library eBooks as Course Materials

Rasmussen University also uses eBooks from the Library collections as eTextbooks in the online courses. There are several specific library database collections that are used for eTextbooks in courses:

  • eBook Central via ProQuest

  • eBooks and Academic eBooks via EBSCO

  • Ovid Nursing eBooks 

  • Safari eBooks 

These eTextbooks are accessed in your online courses to read online or download to read offline. Additionally, you have the ability to highlight and take notes while you are reading or studying for a test when using the read online option.

Library eBooks

The eTextbook may be linked in the course on the side Module Menu of the course (Figure 1) or on the Syllabus in the Required Text and Resources section( Figure 2).Click on the hyperlink to open the eBook. You may have to log in using your Rasmussen username and password.

The Library eBooks are located in several database collections, eBook Central via ProQuest, eBooks via eBooks and Academic eBooks via EBSCO, and Ovid Nursing eBooks. Use the appropriate tab to learn more about each platform and the useful features available (highlighting, notes, printing) in the eBooks. 

Use the hyperlinks to explore the features and navigation of any EBSCO eBook used as an eTextbook in your course. 

eBook Central via ProQuest has created their own comprehensive User Guide, which is available 


Here you will find instructions for:

  • Reading online
  • Downloading for offline use
    • Note: to download to your computer, you need Adobe Digital Editions.
  • How to take notes/annotations
  • Downloading to mobile devices (under the Full Download tab)
    • To download to your mobile device, you will need to install the free Bluefire Reader app.

OVID eBooks are specifically for the Nursing Program and may be found in the online Nursing Courses. 

Ovid provides you with these output options:

  • Print
  • Export to PDF
  • Save to Disk
  • Email Text
  • + My Project
  • Email Link
  • Citation


O'Reilly Safari eBooks are linked within the Module Readings for easy access. 

The college subscribes to an institutional account, so when you click the link in the course the Rasmussen Sign-On page will appear to log on, unless you are already logged into the library resources elsewhere. If you are logged in already the link will open to the assigned reading.
