Poverty and Health by Despite living in one of the wealthiest countries in the world, far too many low-income and no-income men, women, and children in this nation are without health insurance or health care. This is a compilation of writings that address the complex problem of poverty and health across location and population. The authors examine key issues including health care delivery, access, and disparities among various disenfranchised populations.
Investing in Children by “Investing in Children” is organized around three major issues: parental employment, early childhood education and child care, and postsecondary education. The authors demonstrate that in both the United States and Australia, the effects of low family income and income inequality emerge early in life and persist. However, policies that increase parental employment, augment family income, and promote quality preschool and postsecondary education can boost children's development and at least partially offset the negative developmental effects of family economic disadvantage.
