Dispute Resolution Policies and Processes

Overview

Rasmussen University broadly recognizes the rights of students and others who have dealings with the University to present an appeal or grievance through the impartial procedures of an appeal and/or grievance. The university has policies, processes, and procedures that allow for due process.

The procedures to be followed vary depending on the specific type of concern at hand. Below we will walk you through which type of appeal and/or grievance process should be followed.

Final Grade Appeals

Students should first follow the Final Grade Appeals Policy when appealing a final grade (see Final Grade Appeal Policy and process here)

    • More on Final Grade Appeals:
      • Final Grade Appeals are only for final grades for a course
      • Individual assignment/assessment grades and requests for resubmissions should be handled during the quarter/term and cannot be appealed via the final grade appeal process.
      • Final grade appeals should only be related to clerical errors, computational errors, or when the final grade does not align with the expectations of the course syllabus. The course syllabus can be located within the course section in the learning management system (LMS).
      • Academic misconduct determinations and sanctions cannot be appealed through the final grade process – please see the Academic Integrity Policy noted below.
      • Please refer to the full policy for additional appeal conditions, such as timeframes.
      • Contact your academic advisor to discuss the Final Grade Appeal process and to request the necessary form(s) to be completed.

Policy Exception Request/Appeals

Students should follow the Policy Exceptions Policy to request an exception to a university policy (see Policy Exception Policy and process here)

    • More on Policy Exceptions Requests and Appeals:
      • Policy exception requests and appeals are considered due to extenuating circumstances outside of the student’s control.
      • Academic misconduct determinations and sanctions cannot be appealed through the Policy Exception process – please see the Academic Integrity Policy noted below.
      • Please refer to the full policy for additional appeal conditions, such as timeframes.
