Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Equity

Equality versus Equity

The image illustrates the difference between the concepts of equality and equity.  Equality or equal treatment provides people with identical support regardless of other personal characteristics. For example, according to the illustration, a person's physical height is not considered when providing equal support thus leaving one individual unable to view the baseball game.  Equity, on the other hand, takes a variety of individual characteristics into consideration and provides varying levels of support so that all concerned have equal access.
